Quick facts about trade shows

Trade shows, also called trade fairs, are exhibitions at which businesses present their latest products and services to potential buyers as well as their colleagues in the industry. Not always made accessible to the average consumer, trade shows may be restricted to other businesses and the news media or press.
The most famous of all trade shows is CeBIT in Germany, with its primary focus on information technology. Other major shows include the Frankfurt Book Fair, Tokyo Game Show, Detroit Auto Show, Vancouver Boat Show, CES the Consumer Electronics Show, and the Macworld Computer Conference. The once-popular Comdex trade show, started in 1979, was cancelled in 2004 and 2005, and may be gone forever.
Usually held in larger cities, such as
Las Vegas,
New York,
London,
Houston,
Vancouver or
Chicago, just about every primary business category holds important trade shows, including travel & tourism, chemicals, medicine, construction, agriculture, publishing and games. Each trade fair is an occasion for the industry community to find out the latest offerings in their particular field. There may be elaborate dance or musical entertainment. Trade show attendees, visiting different booths and learning about innovations, can sometimes get such perks as free premiums or discount prices on newly released products.
Trade shows often have educational components, with industry leaders giving presentations on new trends and developments. Attending a trade show is also an opportunity to meet and network with other industry representatives.
